Keep reading to learn more about occupational therapy and how it can benefit your child. Then give us a call to get started.
What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a holistic treatment method that helps build the basic skills needed to be able to perform daily activities. The term “occupation” in therapy refers to activities that engage and occupy a child’s time. In sensory integrative therapy sessions, these activities are purposeful, as they are designed with specific goals for the child to achieve.
For children, their day should be “occupied” by play, exploration, challenging their bodies to do new skills, learning to interact with others, learning to control their emotions, attending to tasks, becoming independent, self-care, and learning to learn. A child’s primary occupation is to play and interact with other children. As they age, their occupation changes to being a student and learning.
Our pediatric occupational therapists evaluate a child’s current skills related to play, school performance, self-care, and daily activities. From there, our team will work in tandem with the child, family, caregivers, and other medical professionals as we guide your child toward improving his/her ability to complete these tasks at home, school, and in the community as effectively and independently as possible.

A World of Play Awaits
At the conclusion of our initial evaluation, your child will be greeted with a vibrant, playful, and motivating atmosphere. Our facility is equipped with a variety of engaging and stimulating play areas, each carefully designed to support different therapeutic goals:
Ball Pit
Our colorful ball pit offers a sensory-rich play opportunity that helps children process touch input while developing coordination, strength, postural control, motor skills, and body awareness while having a blast.
Zip Line
The zip line provides a thrilling experience that encourages upper body strength, core strength, motor planning, visual tracking, timing, and vestibular processing.
Swings and Suspension Equipment
We have a wide variety of swings and suspension equipment that cater to the different therapeutic needs of each child. We use swings to facilitate self-regulation, develop ocular-motor skills, motor planning, rhythm, timing, and much more.
Small Gyms
Our two smaller gyms offer spaces for focused, one-on-one therapy sessions, and allow for personalized attention and targeted interventions. When appropriate, these gyms also offer small group play areas so our therapists can address your child’s social skills with 1-2 of their peers. These smaller gyms create authentic opportunities for interactions with other children resulting in turn-taking, sharing, approaching, requesting, and so much more.
Large Multi-Sensory Gym
Our expansive multi-sensory gym is a dynamic space filled with interactive equipment and activities designed to stimulate all senses and encourage physical, social, and cognitive development.
Slides
Our fun slides are not just for enjoyment—they help improve balance, coordination, body awareness, motor planning and even muscle strength as children climb and slide their way to success.
Play with Purpose
Each play area in our clinic is more than just fun and games. Every piece of equipment and every activity is chosen with a specific therapeutic purpose in mind. By integrating play into therapy, we can address various developmental challenges in a way that feels enjoyable and natural to children. This approach helps in:
- Enhancing motor skills and coordination
- Improving sensory processing and integration
- Building social skills and communication
- Boosting confidence and self-esteem
- Encouraging problem-solving and critical thinking
We are dedicated to making therapy a positive and enriching experience for every child. By using play as a therapeutic tool, we tap into children’s innate curiosity and joy, making each session something they look forward to. Our experienced therapists are trained to harness the power of play to achieve therapeutic goals, ensuring that each child receives the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
Come visit us and see how we turn therapy into an adventure! At our clinic, your child’s journey to growth and development is filled with laughter, learning, and lots of play.
What Does an Occupational Therapy Session Look Like?

When your child attends occupational therapy at our clinic, it will often look like they are simply playing with their therapist. This is intentional, as our approach to treatment is to use a child’s innate desire to play to challenge their bodies and minds. Why? Because children learn best when they are playing, exploring, and having fun.
Our job as therapists is to skillfully guide your child toward more challenging activities to build their developmental skills while respecting their preferences and opinions. And because we don’t take a rigid, formulaic approach, no two therapy sessions will ever look the same—because no two children are exactly the same, and their treatment should be as personalized as possible to help them achieve their developmental goals.

What Our Families Are Saying
Our team is passionate about providing high-quality service to the families in our care, but you don’t have to take our word for it! Check out what some of our families have to say about Excel Pediatric Therapy Services:
He thought he was playing.
“This place is awesome. My son went to Excel after getting therapy for nine months in Florida. In just a few short weeks, he progressed more by the methods that they use at Excel than he did all during the nine months in Florida. He thought he was playing but all the activities he was doing were actual work and they made him so much stronger. All of the therapists there know so much. Mrs. Rusty, the owner, is amazing in her knowledge and how to interact with the kids. Thank you so much for helping us!!!”My boys are getting the best services possible.
“I believe that my boys are getting the best services possible. They truly have my children’s best interests in mind and want them to be successful.”It has helped us all.
“The therapists are so well trained and are always full of great ideas. They keep my daughter's therapy fresh and share great ideas about how to produce these results at home. It has helped us all. Speaking with the therapists and watching how they work (virtually during Covid) gave me such good ideas of how to work with her. Even just the way they speak to her is wonderful.”Why Choose Excel Pediatric Therapy Services
